Breaking a bone is never a pleasant thing. I’ve broken a couple in my lifetime (an arm and a foot) and I can tell you in both cases, I just wanted pain pills and some sleep.
Apparently Foo Fighter’s front man Dave Grohl deals with pain differently than the rest of us mere mortals. On Friday, the Foo Fighters were performing in Gothenburg, Sweden when a rather nasty fall could have ended the show.
Dave Grohl was singing “Monkey Wrench” which was just the second song in the set when he apparently overshot a jump onto a ramp and fell into the security pit. You can hear Dave Grohl announce (in the video below) “I think I just broke my leg… I think I really just broke my leg”. He then goes on to make his fans a promise “You have my promise right now that the Foo Fighters, we’re gonna come back and finish this show. But right now, ladies and gentlemen, I’m gonna go to the hospital, I’m gonna fix my leg. But then I’m gonna come back, and we’re gonna play for you again!”
Dave wrapped his announcement up by apologizing to the crowd and handing the show over to Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins. Taylor and the rest of the band played on without their singer for an hour before Dave returned to the stage and rocked on with a broken leg for 2 and 1/2 hours!
This is what makes some artists so amazing! I’m a fan of the Foo Fighters, always have been. Situations like this should make even non-fans at least have some mild respect for this group and their commitment to their fans. Rock on Foo Fighters!
